Ficus Benjamina Variegata

Ficus benjamina Variegata “variegated weeping fig” is one of the most common houseplants. The green and cream-coloured leaves can be trained as a tree with a clear trunk or as a bush with leaves from the top of the plant to the soil level.

These plants need bright, direct light to survive and they prefer to dry out between watering.

Their growth can be slower than the regular solid green foliage and if you are growing as container plants just make sure you provide a moist, well-drained medium, keep the soil slightly moist. Keep in mind leaf drop occurs where trees have not been acclimated to a lower light regime and where there is insufficient natural light.

All houseplant figs can tolerate conditions with rather low light but perform best if they receive several hours of natural light during the day.

• What to use me for: Great for adding a natural tree-like feels to your home or patio and they look smart in a container. If you don’t know what to do with a bare wall I’m a stunning feature plant in your lounge.

• I grow to: I like to grow – in my natural rainforest habitat I’m a giant (15m) but I’ll only take up as much space as you give my roots. 

• Where to place me:  I like full sun and partial shade is OK too. Don’t put me in direct sun from the window as it’ll burn my shiny foliage. Like all figs, I don’t dig a draft.

• Soil Conditions:  Well-drained soil is best for me, but I do need water in hot spells. Indoors be careful not to overwater me or my roots will rot. 

*Please note if planted in the natural ground these plants grow very large and have invasive roots so we recommend keeping it in a pot.
