Gardenia Augusta Ocean Pearl

Gardenia augusta Ocean Pearl is a compact, evergreen shrub with small, glossy, deep-green leaves. Delightful, heavenly perfumed, double, pearl-white flowers appear in late Spring and continue to bloom through the warmer months. An ideal container plant, pots may be positioned near windows to allow their scent to also be enjoyed indoors. This variety is also perfect as a low hedge. Gardenia augusta Ocean Pearl, like all Gardenias, are loved for their wonderful perfume, making them hard to resist. It’s so versatile and pretty, we love the size of this smaller gardenia.

This beauty loves sun to filtered sun and slightly acid soils, but if the leaves start to yellow it means the soil is deficient in minerals that gardenias need.

It’s a simple fix of applying Epsom salts or chelated iron onto the roots. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions and those deep glossy green tones will soon return.

• What to use me for: I’m a feature plant in the garden and make an attractive flowering hedge. Wildlife adores my nectar and I’m evergreen for winter interest.
• I grow to: I’ll reach 1m tall and 75cms wide.
• Where to place me:  I like full sun to part shade.
• How far to space me:  If you’re making a hedge I need 50cms metres otherwise 1 metre, please.
• Soil Conditions:  I like moist, but well-drained slightly acidic soil.
