Graptophyllum ilicifolium – Holly Hedge
Graptophyllum ilicifolium or Holly Hedge or Holly Fuchsia. It’s one of our Australian native rainforest shrubs with gorgeous dark green holly shaped leaves and bright red tubular shaped flowers. It’s a real insect and bird attractor for sure.
It is fairly fast growing in warm climates but slower in cooler areas.
This is a flowering hedge that will reach 3-5 metres high and 1.5 metres wide. It’s a great choice for boundaries, windbreaks and screening out your neighbour. With pruning it can create a nice compact hedge.
Listed as Vulnerable under the EPBC Act* (ie. facing a high risk of extinction in the medium-term future).
In hot spells top up with water as she gets thirsty – its hard work producing those gorgeous blooms for you so help her out.
