Nephrolepis Blue Bell is one of the most popular forms of Boston ferns worldwide and it’s easy to see why with his compact ball of fishbone fronds and floaty, draped ones dangling below. His bright green tropical colour is a real pop and despite all those benefits, he’s surprisingly low maintenance.
These babies come potted in our 85mm tubes and are a great size for the Elho self-watering hanging baskets. Nephrolepis Blue Bell is a textured shock of colour that needs no pruning and only asks for minimal watering with an occasional feed of good quality fertiliser. What more could you ask for?Â
Nephrolepis species are frost tender but are easily grown in mild areas in a position in full shade or part-shade with moist humus-rich soil and steady high humidity. They are a fave when it comes to indoor plants. In cooler climates, if they are grown in heated indoor situations, ensure they receive plenty of bright filtered light and ample water, away from the direct burning light.
Quick Facts:Â
- What to use me for: I make an exciting indoor hanging basket transforming a drab interior into one with chic style. Outside I thrive in the dry shady corner other plants don’t like. Perfect for a Green Wall with those delicate draping fronds.
- I grow to: I’ll get to 1.2m high and 1m wideÂ
- Where to place me: I love the bathroom or any indoor spot with indirect sunlight. Outside I need to shelter from the harsh sun that will frazzle my fishbone fronds.Â
- Soil conditions Water every second day during very dry periods. Ferns thrive in humid conditions. Feed using a gentle, organic fish emulsion.
